This post feels quite vulnerable and although i wrote it quite a long time ago I wasn't sure if it would ever see the light of day but I decided now is as good a time as any!
There doesn’t need to be anyone there with you on your wedding morning. Because lets be real - not everyone has a huge group of friends/family to get ready with and if you struggle with friendships then the wedding industry can make you feel extremely excluded.
As a neurodivergent person who has struggled with friendships my whole life, I know how it feels to be on the sidelines. The wedding industry (mostly) is not neurodivergent friendly and to be honest weddings themselves are a source of panic for many people. I’ve tried to make my services accessible to everyone. You should not be made to feel less for getting ready for your wedding alone.
We are constantly reminded that having a group around us on the wedding morning is the “norm” and while most are lucky enough to find a couple of weirdos to match our energy and call friends those people might not want their hair and makeup done or might not be able to be there while you’re getting ready due to whatever circumstances.
This is why choosing your suppliers carefully and booking in with them early is so important. You deserve those morning shots of you looking all gorgeous, you deserve to have the hair and makeup that makes you feel amazing, you are totally worthy of all these things even if you don’t have anyone there but you.
You can see me as your friend, your artist, just a stranger to lean on - I can be all or nothing, if you want to wear headphones and avoid small talk I can happily accommodate you. Don’t let this flawed industry feel like you can’t have everything you want. Some of the best bonds I’ve formed with my clients are those that chose to get ready on their own.
I don’t know if this will reach the right people or even person but if one other human feels a bit better about booking services for “just” one then I’ll be happy.
